Probably the best and easiest way to teach yourself Spanish is to sign up to one of the learning Spanish online programs that are available.
Quite a few of the sites will offer you a couple of trial lessons for free, and if you find it works for you, you can go ahead and buy. You can even find the odd course that is totally free, although you will find that you are plagued with adverts while you are watching your lessons - still you may feel that this is the way to go.
Another great way to teach yourself Spanish to immerse yourself in the Spanish language as much as you can. The more you listen to and speak Spanish, the faster you will learn. If someone goes and lives within a Spanish community, then it stands to reason that they are going to learn the language much faster than just listening to tapes or reading books.
Not everyone can do that, so the next best thing is to find methods of listening to Spanish being spoken, and reading Spanish as often as you can. Visiting your local library is a good way to find books that are written in Spanish.
So when you are teaching yourself Spanish you could tune into a Spanish tv station - you will need to make sure (at least in the beginning) that there are English subtitles so that you know what is going on.
You could also look at renting out a Spanish dvd (again with subtitles)- You will find that as time goes by, you are relying less and less on the subitles and are actually understanding what is being said.
Read some Spanish newspapers or magazines - again your library may be able to help. Then when you feel more confident how about watching an English dvd with Spanish subtitles?
If you immerse yourself in the language you will find that learning to speak Spanish becomes second nature to you in no time at all.
